OBITUARY - LYLE B. CALDWELL
Lyle B. CALDWELL, eldest son of Burr C. and Bernice (KNIGHT) CALDWELL, was born May 1, 1918 at Mount Ayr, Iowa, and
died December 31, 1989, at his home in Raytown, Missouri, after a lengthy illness.
Lyle attended school in Mount
Ayr Public Schools. His early schooling was in Rice Township Silver Point school. He was an Army Veteran of W.W. II, service with the
Medical Corp in New Guinea. The last few years all the surviving men had a reunion every year, and it was a great joy to
Lyle to get together with the buddies and discuss war days.
On November 30, 1939, he was united in marriage to Lyla
WILSON of Mount Ayr, Iowa. They were married in a home close to Delphos, Iowa. Lyle and Lyla had the privilege of celebrating
50 years of marriage in their church in Kasnsas (sic) City on Decembr 2, 1989. This was a great highlight of
They made their home in Kansas City and Raytown, Missouri, since 1945. After serving in the Army, Lyle
worked as a carpenter, working for Columbia Glass and Window Company 20 years until he retired in 1985.
He was a member
of the Carpenter's Union Local 61, Boy Scouts of America, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Two of Lyle's favorite things to do after retirement were to go fishing with relatives and friends, and he was a great
fan of the Kansas City Royals baseball team.
At the age of 19, he became a Christian. He was a member of the Advent
Christian Church in Mount Ayr. When they moved to Kansas City, he and his wife became members of the Swope Park Baptist
church and served faithfully there until his death. He served in several positions. He had many friends in that fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine BAGLEY, and a brother, David Rex.
He is survived by his
wife, Lyla, of Raytown, Missouri; two sons, David and wife Rosanna, and their children, Maria, John David, Joseph and Jason of Grandview, Missouri,
and Roger and wife Zotoz and their children, Angelia, Nancy, Jarret, Alex and Evan of Shawnee, Kansas; two daughters,
Jane Ann and her husband Gerry CAPLAN and their children, Tina, Camilla and Justin of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lisa
Jeanne and her husband, Keith JACKSON, of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Jack K. CALDWELL of Redding, Iowa and
Ronald L. CALDWELL of No. Kansas City, Missouri; five sisters, Janis CALDWELL and Ruby SCHOONOVER of Kansas City, Missouri,
Roena HUGHES of Portland, Oregon, Evalyn KNAPP of Shawnee, Kansas, and Helen STULL of Mount Ayr, Iowa; many nieces and
nephews whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services were held in the Hinton Chapel of Raytown on Wednesday, January 3, 1990,
with burial in the Mount Moriah Cemetery with Dr. H. Wade PARIS officiating.
