OBITUARY

Aaron W. MATHANY was born near Warren, Trumbull county, Ohio, March 16, 1839, and died at his home near Beaconsfield, Iowa, on January 31st, 1922, aged eighty-two years, ten months and fifteen days. He was left an orphan when a boy of sixteen. He came west then and worked in the northern part of Iowa, where he was married May 26, 1858, to Margaret E. MARTIN. After two years they moved to Ohio and spent about one year, then returned to northern Iowa, where they remained until 1869, when they moved to Ringgold county and lived at different places near where Beaconsfield now stands until 1875 when they moved to the farm where he has since resided. They were the parents of four children, all living except Mrs. Ella FENDER, who died in Beaconsfield, Iowa, March 13, 1914. The mother died July 28, 1917. He was married to Mrs. Ellen HARRIMAN August 24, 1921. He leaves to mourn his loss the widow and the following children: Mrs. Ida DADY, Kellerton, Iowa; Mrs. Flora SHORT, Guthrie, Okla.; Ernest C. MATHANY, Beaconsfield, Iowa, beside twenty-one grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. MATHANY was a man of sterling qualities, highly respected by all who knew him; a splendid neighbor, a good father. His going our marks the passing of another of Ringgold county's pioneers.

He had enjoyed his usual health until a few days ago when he contracted a heavy cold which terminating in bronchitis, causing his death Tuesday morning. Funeral services were conducted from the home by Miss Alta NICHOL, the Methodist pastor at Ellston, Wednesday afternoon and interment was made at the Oliver cemetery.
