New season for Pioneer Museum

CORNWALL HOME, ELLSTON, Iowa
photograph by Sharon R. Becker, August of 2009

The Ringgold County Pioneer Museum at Ellston will open the new 2002 season for visitors on Sunday, June 2. The museum will be open from 1 - 4 p.m. each Sunday through the month of August.

In charge of hosting will be Nadine HOSFIELD during the month of June; Raymond BANNER for the month of July; and Robert and Linda SWANSON during the month of August.

Those who are unable to visit during the regularly scheduled Sunday after noon hours may contact Betty CASE of Ellston. Special tour groups may also contact Robert and Linda SWANSON of Kellerton or Raymond BANNER of Mount Ayr.

The fifth annual open house is scheduled at the museum on Sunday afternoon, September 15. Nancy DERSCHEID of Ellston will again be chairman of this event.

Volunteers who helped with spring cleaning at the museum included John and Mary OVERHOLTZER, Robert SWANSON, Raymond BANNER, Nadine HOSFIELD, Margaret BISHOP and Nan DERSCHEID. A portion of the cleaning was hired out.

The Ringgold County Historical Society has several improvement projects either in progress or under consideration. The Society recently reprinted 1,000 copies of the Dragoon Trace brochures, a project of the 1996 Ringgold Sesquicentennial committee.

Some copies of the Society sponsored book, "Civil War Letters Written to Nancy Jane DeWITT" are still available for $8 at the Mount Ayr Public Library or from Raymond BANNER.
