Drake seriously injured in mishap near Kellerton

A Ringgold county youth was seriously injured in a traffic accident at 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 27 north of Kellerton.

this is the third accident this summer where a young person was seriously hurt when ejected from a vehicle in an accident.

A 1996 Ford Explorer owned and driven by Joshua A. PICKERING of Mount Ayr was involved in a one vehicle accident at the intersection of 330th Avenue and 190th Street north of Kellerton.

PICKERING was eastbound on 190th Street when he approached a sharp curve that turned south on 330th Avenue when he went into the east ditch, tried to over steer and rolled several times in the ditch, ejecting Brittany DRAKE from the vehicle.

Other passengers in the vehicle were Nick PICKERING of Mount Ayr and Ethan WAMBOLD of Kellerton.

There was a long period between the accident and when those involved in the accident could find help.

All four were transported to Ringgold County Hospital where Josh and Nick PICKERING and WAMBOLD were listed in good condition while DRAKE was Life-Flighted to Des Moines in critical condition. DRAKE was involved in a long surgery Tuesday to try to stablize her injuries, according to family members.

Total damage to the Explorer and to a fence was estimated at $5,000. Charges are pending.
