Bonnie and Clyde stories published in booklet form

A year ago the Mount Ayr Record-News ran a series of articles on the story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, which included information about their Ringgold county visit, written by Sharon R. Becker.

A new historical booklet that includes all the stories and pictures from that series in one handy publication has been released this week by Paragon Publications, Inc. and the Mount Ayr Record-News. The booklet sells for $6 plus tax and is available through the Mount Ayr Record-News [122 W. Madison, Mount Ayr IA 50854   Phone: 641-464-2440].

"We had a number of people who purchased sets of the articles in the Mount Ayr Record-News and thought this might be an easier way to have access to the whole story," said Mount Ayr Record-News publisher H. Alan Smith.

"Sharon Becker did a lot of research to gather information including pictures of all of the people killed by the Barrow gang in their crime spree," Smith said.

The information includes a number of clippings of news stories from the era along with Becker's retelling of the story.

Sharon R. Becker was born in Boone county and has been an Iowa resident most of her life. She grew up in Decatur county on a Century farm located northeast of Grand River. She graduated from Grand Valley Community School in Kellerton and obtained her bachelors degree in art from Graceland University and, later still, her paralegal certification from Des Moines Area Community College.

An avid photographer, Becker's photographs have won several local and state honors, including publication in The Iowan magazine.

Becker, who is self-taught, puts her computer skills to work as co-ordinator for both of IAGenWeb's Ringgold and Cerro Gordo county websites. She is a co-coordinator of IAGenWeb's History website, writing many articles for this project.

A longtime member of the Iowa Poetry Association and the National League of American Pen Women, Becker's poems and short stories have been published in several state and national publications, some winning honors. She also works diligently on genealogical projects.
