The need for a new jail for Ringgold county was discussed with a group of some 40 community representatives from across the county in a meeting Wednesday night at the Ringgold county courthouse.

A sentinel chicken in Ringgold coutny has tested positive for the West Nile virus, meaning Ringgold county residents should be on the look out for the virus here.

Enrollments in Ringgold county school districts stayed the same or showed declines from preliminary figures reported in the first week of school in 2005-06, figures compiled Monday indicate. In the Mount Ayr Community school district, comparable enrollment is down 12 students to 666.

Dennis Elliott of Mount Ayr recently won the 2006 USRA A modified track championship at the Mount Dew Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield.

Born, August 24, a daughter, McKenna Nichol Harmon, to parents Shawn Harmon and Sarah Mercer.
