In a protest that was mostly symbolic, a group of people protesting large hog production facilities made their feelings known at the Iowa Select Farms facility a mile west of Maloy Monday morning. In the height of Monday morning's snowstorms, the group spent 20 minutes at the site - singing songs, symbolically blocking the driveways and adding their own padlock to te one already in place on the gate to the facility.

The snowstorms that blanketed Ringgold county Monday morning made the news in New York City. A cameraman from WOI-TV news apparently took some pictures of cleanup efforts around the Mount Ayr square Monday morning while in the county to cover the Maloy demonstration. The pictures were then included in a satellite feed across the country about the storm. The pictures showed up on television in New York City, NY where Talley Sue HOLHFELD, a former resident, saw them and reported them to Bill HOLHFELD of Mount Ayr, her father.

Megan STARK, seven-year-old daughter of Mike and Brenda STARK of Kellerton, is recuperating at home after additional survery in Des Moines on Nov. 20. Megan was injured in a Nov. 9 car-pedestrian accident. Among her injuries were a broken leg and arm. Her father says she is doing well and is walking with the help of a walker but can't yet bend one knee. He expects it to be several weeks before she can return to her studies as a second grader at Grand Valley Community schools.

Two Mount Ayr residents are the new owners for the Horn Inn Motel in Leon. Duane and Marge BURCHETT of Mount Ayr purchased the motel as of Nov. 17 and have selected thenew name of Little River Inn Motel. It is located on Highways 2 and 69. New managers of the motel will be Albert and Nancy COTTRILL of Leon, parents of Marge BURCHETT. The transactions included the motel and the house.

A former Mount Ayr resident has announced her candidacy for the Missouri House of Representatives. Karen (BLUNCK) PAYNE is seeking the Democratic nomination for the legislative seat from Missouri's 54th district.
