Several new instructors were hired by the Mount Ayr Community board of education at the meeting to fill some of the vacancies resulting from retirement, resignations or new positions. Those hired were Terry EASON, Neal ALLSUP, Ed ERGENBRIGHT, Becky POOL, Dana FREDERICK, Virgene HOPKEY, Martha LANDPHAIR and Ellen ELLIOTT.

Suzi HEITTER, Katie MONAGHAN and Petra SIWITZA were recipients of the first letters to recognize academic achievement to be given at Mount Ayr Community high school when awards and scholarships were announced at senior awards day Friday, May 24.

Two donations were made to the Diagonal Printing Museumand Genealogical Center last week. Mary SCHAFROTH of Prescott, flag chairman of the Nancy McKay Harsh chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, presented a flag to Arlene SOBOTKA, museum chairman. Vanette HUNT presented a $1,000 check to Mrs. SOBOTKA on behalf of the Jolly Jinglers 4-H Club.

Amy STEPHENS was named winner of the Arion award, the award presented by the Mount Ayr Lions Club each year to the oustanding instrumental music senior.

Mildred BURDETTE will be putting away school books and lesson plans this spring after 28 years of teaching, mostly in the Ringgold county area. She is retiring from working most recently with the learning disabled at Clearfield, grades kindergarten through 12. She has been there for the past seven years.

Stephanie HOSFIELD of rural Diagonal began work Tuesday, May 28, as dispatcher and secretary in the Ringgold County Sheriff's Office. She is taking the place of Maxine WORTHINGTON who resigned earlier in the year.

Nancy POPE was selected president of the Mount Ayr Community Parent-Teacher Organization at an early May meeting held at the school. Other officers selected for the 1985-86 year include the following: Ginny QUICK, first vice president; Sheila SHAFER, second vice president; Claudia KERNDT, treasurer; and Nancy SACKETT, secretary.

BIRTHS REPORTED FROM RINGGOLD COUNTY HOSPITAL:

  • May 21, a son to Lenora McHENRY, Grant City MO
  • May 23, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Gary WURSTER, Tingley
  • May 24, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Kirk GOLLIDAY, Mount Ayr
