Neighbors went Thursday to the farm of Luther COX in Athens township, where they performed a good Samaritan act for Mr. COX, who was called upon recently to mourn the death of his wife.

With 25 tractors and one hay baler the men cultivated 100 acres of beans, plowed and planted 20 acres of beans, cultivated 70 acres of corn and baled 300 bales of hay.

Sharing in the neighborly deed were Dock JOHNSTON, Ernest HEGGS, Allan HEGGS, Sydney SICKELS, A. W. MOSBARGER, Max GREIMANN, Delmar MILLER, Edward ADAMS, Thos. J. WATT, J. M. SHAHA, Joe HAINLINE, E. S. PAYTON, Richard LESAN, Hugh LESAN, Ray LAIRD, Lawrence SWANK, Haldon FUGATE, Charlie REED, J. D. HERREN, Marion MILLIGAN, Charles SICKELS, Dean SIMPSON, Gilmore BARBOUR, Earl MERRITT, W. F. SCHMIDT and Marvin LESAN.

Leroy OLNEY, who since 1946 has been a faithfull employee of the engineering department of Ringgold county, has resigned his position, effective as of July 1. He has accepted a position of advancement with the Missouri State Highway Commission, the duties of which he will assume tomorrow. He will be located in the district office at Saint Joseph, MO.

A set of candlelighters and snuffers was presented Sunday to the Methodist church as a memorial to Dr. D. D. TAFF and son, James, who were fatally injured December 4, 1951. The presentation was made by Mrs. TAFF and daughters, Virginia and Sue Ann, during the regular Sunday morning worship service.

Mr. and Mrs. A. L. SPENCER observed their 68th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home in Mount Ayr.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed HEGGS quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday at their home near Kellerton.

On Sunday afternoon, June 19, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer SAVILLE held open house at their farm home east of Redding in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Herman HAUSHEER, M.D., arrived today in Mount Ary to be associated with D. E. MITCHELL, M.D., in the practice of surgery and medicine.

  • June 28, a son, Anthony Lynn, to Mr. and Mrs. Gary SILVER, Lamoni
  • June 28, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ival WEDDLE, Parnell MO
