RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 30, 1981

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

"Star-Spangled Girl," a Neil Simon comedy will be the summer offering of the Moonlighters Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1-2.

Grand champion in the market beef show went to Mary Ann WEEDA, who showed a 1,257 pound steer. Supreme champion heifer and champion in the Sommental class was shown by Craig WILLIS. Scott WALTERS swept the swine show with the grand champion market pig.

Allen TRIGGS of Harlan has been released from the hospital Friday and was back to work Monday morning following his being treated for facial and upper torso bruises. TRIGGS was beaten and robbed when he was stopped by two men who appeared to need assistance. The incident began near the Highway 34-59 intersection near Glenwood early last Tuesday morning.

The First Christian Church of Mount Ayr has undertaken many unique ways of raising money for its building fund in the last 127 months since the fire which destroyed the brick structure which had served the congregation since 1913. None of them have been as ambitious an undertaking as the current project of providing the meals at the 4-H and FFA Youth Inn at the upcoming Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

The congregation will prepare and serve over 10,000 meals including an banquet for 200 one evening as well as providing for food for the usual cafeteria line.

Heather GREEN, four-year-old daughter of the Mike GREENS of Mount Ayr, will be in competition at the Iowa State Fair in the Bill Riley Talent Sprouts Show. The day she will appear has not been announced.
