The longtime record books of three Ringgold [county] 4-H girls -- Shirley GOINS, Lucille FARIS and Thelma BLACK -- have been sent to Amers to be considered for state awards. Lucille and Thelma are members of the Gay Farmerettes and Shirley is a member of the Jolly Jinglers 4-H Club. Shirley has been invited to Ames for a special interview today (Thursday), during which she will be considered as a candidate for a special trip.

The Ringgold county 4-H girls with 1,249 points won the 4-H food preservation contest held recently at the Saint Joseph Interstate Show. Members of the team were Katheryn McCREARY, Cela WALTERS, high individual scorer with 463 points, and Rosetta HAILEY. Mary Sue BASTOW and Helen RAUCH were red ribbon winners and Barbara SACKETT was a blue ribbon winner.

A total of $400 has been provided this year by the Ringgold County Tuberculosis and Health Association for research in tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases, Mrs. Carl F. PETERSEN, president of the county association, announced today.

  • September 23, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Duane GROSE, Ellston
  • September 26, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph ELLIOTT, Lamoni
  • September 27, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Billy SMITH, Lamoni
