RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 29, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

The newly organized league for boys from the fifth through the seventh grades, opened play Wednesday afternoon of last week at Lucky Lanes in Mount Ayr. The league is composed of four teams -- Big Three, Frustrated Three, Ten Pin Kings and Mighty Three.

Four hundred and seventy-five persons attended the annual Ringgold County 4-H Achievement Night held Friday in the high school gymnasium in Mount Ayr, during which 85 4-Hers received achievement awards for their contributions to the 4-H club program. Announced as the top 4-H clubs for 1962 were the Tingley Toppers and Tingley Topperettes. The boys' club received a check for $50 from the Security State Bank of Mount Ayr, which money will be used to pay the expenses of a trip in the near future.

The Mount Ayr Raiders won their second victory of the season Friday night by downing their hosts, the Centerville Big Reds, 53 to 51, on a tip-in by Rick DEFENBAUGH with only seven seconds remaining on the clock.

Larry KNIGHT, senior center on the Mount Ayr Community high school football team, was recently selected a member of the Omaha World Herald's All Southwest Iowa Team. Larry was described by Tall Corn Conference coaches as in a class by himself.

Four members of the varsity squad received honorable mention on the Iowa Daily Press Association high school all-state football team. Cited for their fine play by the IPDA were Larry KNIGHT at center, Ron JOHNSON at end, Rick FARRELL at tackle and Eugene RICKER at the back positions.
