Juniors and seniors at MACHS and their dates had "A Night To Remember" and "A Haunting Good Time" in prom and after prom activities held at the high school and American Legion Hall Saturday.

Five MACHS Business Professionals of America students will be participating in the national BPA conference in San Antonio, TX May 5-9. Taking part in the competition will be: Jeff BURMEISTER, legal concepts; Belinda CHRISTNER, computer aided graphics; Margi STEPHENS, prepared speech II; Ethan SICKELS, extemporaneous speaking; and Michelle HYMBAUGH, financial specialist.

Thirteen new members of the Parnassus chapter of the National Honor Society were installed at a ceremony at MACHS Monday night. New members include: senior Todd DERSCHEID, and juniors: Brian CAMPBELL, Jody DENNEY, Leslie DREDGE, Damian HURMENCE, Brandi LININGER, April LUTRICK, Kristy MOE, Teena SHIELDS, Jamie TAYLOR, Tony TRULLINGER, Cindy WALTERS and Dana WEEDA.

A MACHS senior, Nathan SMITH, was named to the Des Moines Register Southwest Iowa Academic All-State team fo 1993. He was among the 10 students from southwest Iowa named to the regional team.

It was advertised as an "old fashioned fun day" and that was what over 200 found to be true when they were in Diagonal April 25 for a 4-H Fun Day. The Jolly Jinglers and Twin River Tornado 4-H clubs sponsored the event with leaders Cindy SCHLAPIA, Jan JOHNSTON and Cheryl WHITTINGTON. Among winners of various contests were: checkers, Josh SHIELDS; pitch, John WHITTINGTON; husband-calling, Dee MORSE and Arlene SOBOTKA; cow chip toss, Nathan FORD, Jason SCHLAPIA and Tim COOPER; quilt, Betty WATTS; and antique car show, Lester ELLIOTT.

Earth Day was celebrated in several ways in Ringgold county this week. Grand Valley elementary school had a tropical rain foest, a scavenger hunt and sixth graders put on "A Midsummer's Night Eve of Reconstruction," with cast members Tisha BECKER, Chad HOLMES, Josh VANDERFLUGHT, Joshua HEIDTMAN,Kelly BENSHOOF and Jenny JACKSON, and crew members Jeff TAYLOR, T.K. STEWART and Jayson JACKSON.

Representataives to Boys State and Girls State have been named. Ethan SICKELS of Kellerton and Damian HURMENCE will attend Boys State at Camp Dodge and Leslie DREDGE of Mount Ayr will attend Girls State at the University of Northern Iowa.
