Three Ringgold county communities were recipients of Iowa Governor Robert Ray's Leadership awards, presented by Governor Ray, Dec. 5 at the Iowa Community Betterment recognition day ceremonies in Des Moines. Representatives of Beaconsfield, Kellerton and Mount Ayr attended the annual banquet: Mildred SOBOTKA from Beaconsfield; Lois EPPS, Doris JOHNSON, Roland JACKSON, Betty JACKSON, Rex MILLER, Rex JACKSON, Pam JACKSON and Barry JACKSON from Kellerton; and Gayle BUCKNER, Sheryl SMITH, Mary Sue WEBB and Doris KINTON from Mount Ayr.

Trudy TOWNSEND, age five, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry TOWNSEND, found Mrs. Santa Claus a willing listener at the the courthouses Saturday afternoon.

Katherine EGLY McFARLAND has earned a master of science of education degree at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.

The latest in the string of victories for the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes basketball team came at Corning. Junior Lori WOOD hit three field goals in the final quarter to give Mount Ayr a 56-52 victory. Shelley COLLIER led scoring with 35 points and Renea WOOD led rebounds with five.

MAC Raider basketball team was defeated by Corning 102-60. David FREED led Raider scoring with 13 points and Gary WEEDA and Mark COLLIER each had 12 points.

  • December 23, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ben KOHLLEPPEL, Parnell MO
