Jim HALEY was elected as vice chairman of the Benton Centennial committe during a March 4 meeting held at the Benton community hall.

Eight big, round bales of hay were destroyed in a fire about 12:15 p.m. Sunday,March 23, at the Marshall BARKER farm three miles south of Mount Ayr on the "Country Club" road. Mount Ayr volunteer firemen were called to the scene after sparks from burning trash ignited the hay.

Elmo ROE was honored March 20 by Mount Ayr Odd Fellows for his 50 years of lodge membership and service to the community.

A Diagonal 4-H member has been named as one of three state 4-H council members to represent the Creston Extension Area for the coming year. Lesa STEPHENS of Diagonal will be part of the 48-member state 4-H council, giving leadership to the 4-H organization of 45,000 members in the coming year. STEPHENS is the 17-year-old daughter of Jerry and Barb STEPHENS of Diagonal, a senior at the Diagonal Community high school and a 10-year 4-H member in Ringgold County.

Board members of the Mount Ayr Resource Commission welcomed the new Mount Ayr Greenhouse to the community with a ribbon cutting Monday. The greenhouse will be operated by Randy and Charlotte WARD.
