Two break-ins were reported to the Ringgold county sheriff's office -- one at Mount Ayr Auto Parts and the other at the Diagonal Skelly Station. The one at Mount Ayr Auto Parts was discovered around 8 a.m. March 20 when lyle GREIMANN came to work. he found the front door open and called owner Hank SMITH of Mount Ayr. There was $150 in bills missing. The break-in at the Diagonal Skelly Station, located on Main Street, was found when Bob STRANGE, who operates the station, came to work Tuesday morning, March 25. Entrance was gained by prying open the front door. Missing were the cash register and $200 in cash, some of which was taken from a pop machine.

Mitchell Drug of Clearfield will hold its grand opening at its new store there Saturday, March 29. Owner Steve MITCHELL of Mount Ayr said the new store will feature a pharmacy open six days a week plus a lunch counter and drug and sundry department. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and open till 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. One feature of the Mount Ayr store will be repeated at the Clearfield store, MITCHELL said, nickel coffee.

Mount Ayr volunteer firemen couldn't have been much closer or more ready to respond to a call for help than on Wednesday night, March 19. A fireplace flue at the Mac CROSS home in Mount Ayr overheated and brought firemen to the residence about 8:30 p.m.

  • March 22, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Kelly MAIN, Mount Ayr
