Ringgold county auditor Kimberly O'MAILIA has recommended that Ringgold county drop its sponsorship of the Gooseberry Lake Project. O'MAILIA, in a report dated Thursday, told the Ringgold county board of supervisors that because of the financial situation of the county, she was opposed to the project.

Marcia ALMQUIST, a cancer survivor herself, will be launching "A New Beginning," a cancer retreat center on Sun Valley Lake in Ellston this July.

Gladys JOHNSTON of Clearview Nursing Home celebrated her 106th birthday on Wednesday, June 19. JOHNSTON is the oldest living person in Ringgold county and the oldest living graduate of Mount Ayr Community school.

Drew INGRAM, a former student at Mount Ayr Community high school, now a senior this coming fall at Winterset high school, recently returned from New York City, NY as a part of the Southwestern Iowa Touring Honor Choir. INGRAM is the son of Julie INGRAM of Winterset and the grandson of Michael and Nancy KELLY, also of Winterset, and great-grandson of Maxine WERNER of Shannon City.

A $51,000 program to update the Tingley community building has recently been completed. Members of the Tingley Building Improvement Committee include Sue RICHARDS, Jenesse TULL, Suzanne MILLER, Mary OVERHOLTZER, Mary Sue McINTOSH and Nancy JARRED.

Ringgold County Economic Development Corporation was a recipient of two donations to the renovation of the Landis Building on the square in Mount Ayr. Jim DUETSCH, manager of the Mount Ayr Hy-Vee, presented a check for $500 to members of the Economic Development Corporation. Casey's General Stores also donated a check recently.

Ringgold county teens were busy doing community service last week. Several members of the Upper Limits Teen Center scraped and painted the Skelly Station on the square in Mount Ayr. Volunteers also helped with the gutting of the old Landis building, which will house the Ringgold County Tourism office, Ramsey Foundation, Ringgold County Development Corporation and the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce.
