Oakel PETTINGER of Tingley participated in a bubble gum blowing contest at the Iowa State Fair last week. She won first place in the contest held Thursday and received a blue ribbon as the fair's best bubble blower.

When the new television season debuts in September, Ringgold county residents will see some familiar faces on the small screen. The Bill HYNEK family from Beaconsfield will be featured in two Hy-Vee commercials set to begin running later this fall. "My Hy-Vee Sing and Smile Contest" winners Joe, Amy and Amanda HYNEK were joined by their parents, Bill and ANgie, when it came time to film the commercials Tuesday, August 18, in Des Moines.

Over 100 people took advantage of the opportunity to tour five homes at Sun Valley lake and ride around the lake on pontoon boats during the annual home tour at the lake near Ellston Sunday.

The National Weather Service of Des Moines will be honoring Dean COBB of Blockton for 40 years of service to the organizaiton. COOB has been reporting Blockton area weather since 1958.

Jason SMITH recently participated inthe Iowa Games, a multi-sport festival of games held in Ames. SMITH participated in both the unlimited 3-D archery competition and the sporting clay shooting competition. He is the son of Dorthy GARRETT SMITH of Diagonal and Jock SMITH of Chillicothe, MO.
