Crystal ADAMS was named valedictorian and Elisa JONES was named salutatorianand thousands of dollars in scholarships were awarded at the annual Mount Ayr Community high school senior awards day Thursday morning.

Becky WERNER was named valedictorian and Heather O'KELLEY was named salutatorian when the Diagonal Community high school commencement and awards night was held Friday at Diagonal.

Bill MAYER, a layman at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Ayr, took a pilgrimage ot the Holy Land March 7-21.

Ashlyn HEWLETT of Mount Ayr will compete at the National Junior Maine-Anjou Show. The five-day event will draw 360 animals and 210 conestants to Des Moines June 18-22. The youth, representing 18 states and Canada, will compete in cattle shows, salesmanship, public speaking, showmanship and grooming contests, plus photography, herdsman and quiz bowl competitions and fun and educational activities.

Four Mount Ayr Community high school graduating seniors were among 1,600 Iowa high school seniors recently recognized as State of Iowa scholars by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission, the state agency which administers the annual scholarship program. Ringgold county scholars this year are Crystal ADAMS, Julian GALLOWAY, Elisa JONES and Amy VARDAMAN.

A Ringgold county resident has been named as a delegate to the Iowa Cultural Caucus to be held June 4-5 in Des Moines. Angie SLEE HYNEK of Beaconsfield participated in the Region 5 conference held in Osceola March 26, where she was selected as a delegate.
