Two exchange students are bringing an international flavor to the halls of Mount Ayr Community high school this year. Johnny HUAN of Qaichung, Taiwan and Camila SAAD of Uberlandia, Brazil are students in the high school this year. HUAN is living with Rick and Marilyn HAWKINS of Mount Ayr and SAAD is living with Alan and Valle SMITH of Mount Ayr.

Council member Jerry HYNES told the Mount Ayr city council that he will need to resign within six months when he moves to Creston. He had been hired as a fireman on the Creston fire department and has six months to move to Creston as a job requirement.

Most of the items leading to the final disposition of property from the Grand Valley Community school district are in the process of being worked out. The Grand Valley Trust and Agency committee heard reports from school districts on acceptance of the mediated settlement between this group and the Grand Valley Community School District Charitable Trust, which was given the property by the Grand Valley school board, and began to work on several areas of the plan.

State representative Cecil DOLECHECK of Kellerton is campaigning with a cast after an accident Saturday, Sept. 12. DOLECHECK broke bones in his right leg after falling from the roof of his house. He was carrying a bundle of shingles up the ladder and lost his balance.

A ribbon cutting was held by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce at Country Blossoms, the flower and gift shop on the south side of the square to welcome new owner Angie GLENDENNING.

Laura JONES, Meghan PETERSOHN, Scott LAURITSEN and Shannon NORRIS were four Mount Ayr Community high school students who toured Europe this summer with an honor band program.

Place's Discount Store in Mount Ayr has a new management team in place. New manager is Teresa SULLINS of Mount Ayr, who has worked at the Place's store here for one and one-half years. New assistant manager of the store here is Darin DOLECHECK of Kellerton. DOLECHECK has worked for Place's here for two years.
