Royce DIVELEY of Kellerton will be the new president of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau which has 737 members this year. Curt GREENE will be secretary and Neil MORGAN treasurer for the group for a one-year term beginning November 1, 1987.

Candidates for homecoming king and queen at Mount Ayr Community high school this year include king hopefuls Jeff SCOTT, Randy WEEHLER, Scott WALTERS, Jamie STRINGHAM and Brian CHRISTNER and queen hopefuls, Tracy FORD, Christy SHIELDS, Angel McDONNELL, Kelly RICHARDS and Jackie GOODALE.

An open house was held September 8 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Blockton Post Office. The original office was established as Mormontown on June 12, 1872 with Thomas KING as postmaster and the name was changed to Blockton on September 8, 1887 which Virgil CHIPMAN was postmaster. The third class office presently employs Eldon STROBURG, postmaster; Vickie JEANES, clerk; Cecil NEWKIRK and Dick SNETHEN, rural carriers, and Danny QUICK and Gary KLEJCH, substitute carriers.

Three Ringgold county area farmers will be featured participants on the Conservation Farming Systems Panel at the 1987 Farm Progress Show in Alleman later this month. John Ross STEPHENS and Harold SELIM, both of Shannon City, will discuss their tillage experiences with other Iowa farmer panelists on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and Roger SCHNOOR of Mount Ayr will be on the panel Thursday, Oct. 1.

Some of the top placers in the judging of the Ayr Days parade Saturday, Sept. 12, included the Hawkeye Bank & Trust float that took first place in the business division; a trio of TRULLINGERS who won the runner-up spot in the kiddie parade; the Awana Club float that topped the organization category and was named the best entry of the parade, and the Platte River saddle club that topped the horse division of the parade.
