RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 24, 1985

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Five emergency medical techinicians and one Ringgold County Hospital ambulance were part of the area crews and equipment called to Thayer about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, to minister to some 42 persons injured in a train accident. A swaying car from a passing fright rain was reported to have sideswiped Amtrak's California Zephyr at Thayer. Most of those injuries from broke glass having become imbedded and ehre were bumps and bruises.

The Mount Ayr city council had accepted the resignation of councilman Richard PRENTIS at its October 7 meeting due to PRENTIS' health problems and discussed a number of names at its meeting Monday. Gerald CANNON was then chosen by the council to fill the two-year unexpired portion of PRENTIS' term on the council. CANNON will be sworn in at the November 4 meeting of the council.

After both the hospital administration and representatvies of the Harold HUGHES Center had a chance to make some points that seemed to be festering, both sides agreed to try to work out details on an increase in the daily rate for the center at Ringgold County Hospital. The discussion came in a special meeting of the Ringgold County Hospital board held Monday night, called at the request of Harold HUGHES Center officials.

Tracy LESAN, senior at Grand Valley Community high school and son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin LESAN of Kellerton, has been selected as one of the finalists for the University of Northern Iowa presidential scholarship.
