RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 24, 1957

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

At the 11th annual service emblem award party the night of October 14, C. M. CAMP and Earl SCHARDEIN were presented pins on recognition of 45 and 10 years of service, respectively, with the Iowa Southern Utilities.

Nine children, occupants of a Mount Ayr school bus, and the driver, Harry BISBEY, escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when the bus skidded off a graveled country road and landed on its side. The accident happened about 4 p.m. two miles south of Mount Ayr in front of the Donald THOMAS farm as Mr. BISBEY was returning the children to their homes. Heavy rains had caused the road to become hazardous and Mr. BISBEY was unable to control the bus when it started to leave the road. The bus, smallest of the fleet of Mount Ayr school buses, was extensively damaged.

Elmo ROE, of the ROE Implement Company, International Harvester dealer in Mount Ayr, accompanied by Mrs. ROE, left Monday on a luxurious, all-expense [paid?] trip to Los Angeles, CA. Mr. ROE won the Pacific Coast vacation for outstanding sales performance this year on retail deliveries of Farmall and International tractors and McCormick combines and balers.

W. E. KELLEY of Middle Fork township was elected president of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau at the annual meeting held Tuesday evening at the Mount Ayr Country Club.

Five persons, occupants of two cars which were involved in an accident Sunday evening about 6 p.m., one and on-fourth miles north of Kellerton, escaped with only minor cuts and bruises. The cars, a 1955 Chevrolet driven by Carnie ANDERSON of Ellston and a 1956 Chevrolet operated by Bernell BOLES of Grand River, met head-on as they came over the crest of a hill on a dirt road. Both cars were extensively damaged.
