RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 24, 1999

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

A Ringgold county farmer was one of two Iowans recognized Friday for their efforts on behalf of agriculture by the Iowa Farm Bureau. E. Lee FARIS of Mount Ayr and Robert FURLEIGH of Clear Lake are recipients of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation's 1999 distinguished service to agriculture awards.

FARIS is an advocate of beef and soil conservation and presently farms a diversified crop and livestock operation with his wife Martha. Their operation consists of corn, soybeans, alfalfa hay, a cow-calf herd, background calves and a farrow to finish swine operation.

A perfect hand of cribbage isn't dealt very often but that's what happened when Raymond GREENE and Everett REYNOLDS were playing cribbage at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr Sunday evening. GREENE, who has been playing for more than 60 years, had never seen a perfect hand before that that was what he dealt to Everett REYNOLDS while they were playing. REYNOLDS, who has been playing cribbage for five years, was dealt a hand of three fives and the jack of diamonds to go with the five of diamonds to make the score of 29 for a perfect hand.

Jake DAILEY was presented the 1998 Distinguished Service Award honoring his volunteer efforts on the football "chain gang" and running the clock at track meets in a ceremony at the University of Iowa.
