Three hundred and twenty-five persons from nine states and 27 towns registered Saturday afternoon and evening during the open house of the Tingley State Savings Bank to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment.

In response to a special invitation to the 50th anniversary observance of the founding of the Tingley State Savings Bank, Hon. F. E. SHELDON of Saratoga, CA (one of the original directors of the bank) wrote an interesting letter, reminiscent of the early days in the Tingley community. The letter (printed in full) tells of the naming of Tingley, re-location of the post office, the coming of the railroad, how drunken workers turned Tingley into a "wild west" town, the burning of business houses, the establishment of the bank and many other history-making events.

Another honored guest at the anniversary observance was A. R. (Bert) HASS, one of the original directors and first cashier of the bank. He called to mind business establishments and proprietors in Tingley in 1904:

four general stores, operated by George SLENTZ, Harry SPURRIER, H. TUTTLE and HEYER Brothers;

two drug stores, owned by W. ELDER and T. ASBURY;

two lumberyards by C. RICHARDSON and G. RICHEY;

furniture and undertaking by H. EDWARDS;

a hardware store by Job NELSON;

a hardware and tin shop by Tom FOSTER;

a grain elevator by O. TALBOTT;

a meat market by Frank HURST;

a harness shop by J. MAHAFFEY;

and a restaurant and bakery by Lew LANHAM.

W. WATSABAUGH was publisher of the Tingley Vindicator; Maggie POLLOCK served as postmaster; E. CULP as the blacksmith; Roy McDOWELL and Perry BUCHANAN were draymen; and the community was served by doctors M. HANNLLY, L. HINSDELL and H. WHISLER.

Three young men from Mount Ayr, all volunteers, went Monday to Des Moines in response to Induction Call No. 50. They were Marvin A. TRIGGS, Gerald K. McGEHEE and Roger W. GREENMAN.

Mount Ayr's baseball team extended its win to three straight by slaughtering Princeton, MO, 16 to 0. A 15-hit attack, including a pair of homers, drove three Princeton pitchers to cover in seven innings. Tom GROVES connected for his first four-master of the season in the second and Paul BEARD slammed one in the sixth, also his first. Skip EASON pitched a masterful one-hitter while fanning eight.

West End Market is celebrating its fourth anniversary. Sales include:

Lifebouy soap, three for 27-cents; Hy-Klas ice cream, 69-cents half-gallon; ground beef, 29-cents/pd.; turkey TV dinner, 79-cents.
