RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 24, 1987

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Winners were named in the annual Mount Ayr residential Christmas lighting contest which was judged Sunday night. The contest is sponsored by the Mount Ayr Resource Commission (MARC). Taking first place in the contest was the home of the Steve ROE family on West Street in the north part of Mount Ayr. Second place went to the home of Dr. Duane MITCHELL family at 305 E. Jefferson Street. Third place went to the Lawrence COMBS home at 801 N. Fillmore. The judges also named two honorable mention homes which were not entered in the contest. Honorable mention went to the home of the Dr. Roy FELL family at 404 W. Madison Street and the Bill RUSK family at 307 E. Jefferson Street.

The smallest church in Ringgold county has to be the one in the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church basement. But then it was never meant for big folks. It was build for little folks, with little folks' help and has been named the "Wee Church." It is too big to ever be taken out of the basement in one piece, yet small enough to be "just right" for the 14 preschool and kindergarten church school class taught by Rick and Marilyn HAWKINS.
