Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Named as new Iowa FFA degree honorees were senior Tom SACKETT and 1996 graduate Nathan NICKLE. Tom SACKETT, son of Keith and Nancy SACKETT of Mount Ayr, has been working for SACKETT Farms and raising soybeans as his major SAE projects. Nathan NICKLE, son of Randall and Candy NICKLE of Clearfield, started working as a swine technician for Iowa Select Farms after graduation last year.

Becky STAMPS was named a membor of the Diagonal Community school board.

Aric HEWLETT, a sixth grader at Grand Valley elementary school, won first place in one of the divisions of the Green Valley Area Education Agency media division annual bookmark contest.

A Mount Ayr student at Simpson College in Indianola will be participating in the Drake Relays Friday. Chip BRUNDAGE of Mount Ayr will be throwing the discus in the Drake Relays competition Friday, April 25.

DiAnna FARIS received her second varsity letter in basketball at the Central College 1996-97 basketball banquet. She is a five foot, six inch senior guard who averaged 6.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

The big snowstorm last week was not the only wild weather Ringgold county has received this spring. A week earlier it was rain storms with heaving winds that came through the county. One casulaty of the winds was a large tree that tipped over on the home of Jon and Nikki BINNING in Mount Ayr. The tree was pulled out by its roots from a bank to the west of the BINNING home.

What started out as a routine Mediterranean deployment for Marine Lance Cpl. Jason HANSEN developed into a major real-time operation recently, as the sailors and marines of USS Nassau were called upon to evacuate American civilians from the nation of Albania. HANSEN is the son of Debbie SHIELDS of Diagonal and the grandson of Robert KIBBE and Annabelle SHIELDS, both of Mount Ayr.
