RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 23, 1966

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

Approximately 100 horses, 27 of which were Mount Ayr entries, competed in the Ringgold County Saddle Club's annual show held Sunday evening at the fairgrounds.

Michael Dempsey Johnson, 19, who had been confined to the county jail since June 13, awaiting action on a charge of larcency in the nighttine, appeared Monday in district court and pleaded guilty before Judge Thomas Brown.

Curtis Wilson, 37-year-old farmer of the Redding vicinity, suffered serious head injuries Thursday afternoon about 2:30 in a tractor accident.

Kenny Markley shot a 30 over [at] the Mound Ayr Golf and Country Club Course Saturday afternoon, for an all-time low for the course on which 36 is par.

The Mount Ayr community will not play host to a foreign exchange student this year. That was the word received from the national committee of the American Field Service which has charge of placing foreign students. Reasons given were that fewer foreign students applied this year and larger communities increased their requests for students.

Monte Straight of Kellerton in his red bomb - a 1955 Chevy - won the Trophy Dash. Monte has been driving only since the start of the 1966 season and proved he can really put his Chevy around the track.

Bill Sickels in his 1955 Chevy, nicknamed "Old Smoky," took the Speed Dash trophy.
