RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 23, 1953

Lindsay Ricker

The annual Kellerton Reunion will be held three days next week, Monday through Wednesday, sponsored by the Kellerton Lions Club. The George Nelson Shows will be on the grounds. Attractions include a Ferriswhell, merry-go-round, boat in water ride, train, kiddie auto rides and others, plus twenty concessions.

In response to Induction Call No. 29, two young men from Ringgold county went Wednesday to Des Moines and California, where they were inducted in the service. They were Lawrence E. BARKER of Diagonal, who reported at the induction station in Des Moines, and Don W. BRAND of Diagonal, who was transferred to California.

Seventy-two Ringgold 4-H boys attended the annual county 4-H camp held near Diagonal on July 17 and 18. The boys enjoyed a well balanced program of recreational and educational activities. The program was climaxed by the parents-sons picnic dinner on Sunday noon, which was attended by over 300 people.

Everett REYNOLDS was installed as commander of Ringgold Post No. 172, American Legion, at the regular meeting of the service group held July 13.

The Ringgold county girls' 4-H camp was held Thursday to Saturday at the camp site west of Diagonal with 85 girls in attendence. Jenessee OVERHOLTZER, from the Tingley Topperettes, was elected Spirit of Camp and was crowned queen in the campfire ceremony by Sharon BROWN, Mary SWANK, Monica SHIEL and Roberta DERICKSON.

Lyle SPENCER, who was recently appointed postmaster at Kellerton, assumed his duties Friday.

Dr. Warren W. BENTZINGER, who for the past four years has served as Protestant chaplain of the University Hospitals in Iowa City and Oakdale Tuberculosis Sanatorium, has resigned that position, effective as of August 1st. Dr. BENTZINGER, a former pastor of the Mount Ayr Methodist church, will become chaplain of St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
