The new computer system installed January 16 at the Ringgold county sheriff's office gave local law enforecement officers a link to over 200 terminals state-wide located in criminal justice agencies.

Grand Valley and Mount Ayr Community schools are reporting much absenteeism this past week as a result of, in the main, two types of virus, described by local doctors as very communicable. Grand Valley Community, of the 181 total enrollment, 48 youths were absent on January 14. Mount Ayr Community elementary and grade children seemed to be the biggest sufferes here. An increase in sick children began a week ago Monday, Jan. 13, when 60 of the 366 were out. On Tuesday there were 77; Wednesday, 104; Thursday, 116, and Friday was the highest with 121.

Dale BICKEL of rural Clearfield was elected chairman of the Ringgold County Hospital board of trustees at a January 13 meeting. he had been vice chairman. Harold COOPER is retiring president.

Recently promoted at Hawkeye Bank & Trust in Mount Ayr were Karen BENDER, Kim GREENLAND and Gene POPPE.

Jodi PERKINS reigned as queen and Dennis STARK, king, of Grand Valley Community high school of Kellerton's homcoming festivities Friday night, Jan. 17.

  • Jan 16, a son to Susan OLIVER, Mount Ayr
  • Jan 17, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. John COVERDELL, Diagonal
