RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 22, 1989

Maggie Jennett, News Intern, Mount Ayr Record-News

Extensive damage resulted from an electrically-caused fire at the Deb and Rod HOLMES dwelling at Kellerton about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, June 11. The couple and their two sons -- Chad, 8 and Travis, 5 -- were visiting her parents when the fire broke out.

Lywanda CASE of Mount Ayr, a 1989 graduate of MACHS, was chosen to receive a $750 scholarship to the college on a Flossie Neff Owen scholarship adminstered by the Optimist Club of St. Joseph.

Ribbon cuttings for new businesses or businesses with new owners were held this week at three Mount Ayr locations. The first cutting was at Mount Ayr Vision center where Jeff FARNAN is the new owner of the business formerly known as the Spec Shoppe. There was an open house at Bredeaux Pizza to celebrate the new owners of the establishment. The third ribbon cutting was at the new G&I Feed & Grain, Inc. building in Mount Ayr this week as well.

The Riaderettes softball team is halfway to a first-ever Pride of Iowa title. If the girls can cope with playing with pressure and keep their defense air-tight then in two weeks they may bring home the championship.
