The Mount Ayr American Legion and Auxiliary, with the cooperation of other organizations and many other people and groups of the community, are planning a full day of activities at the new Legion building in Mount Ayr on July 4. The main attraction of the day will be the dedication of the new Legion building. A kiddie parade will start from the new ISU industrial building on the Country Club road.

The city of Mount Ayr has designated the following civil defense alarm signals:

3-Minute Steady Tone -- indicates tornado sighted in vicinity, take cover;

1-Minute Steady Tone -- all clear, storm has passed;

2-Minute Wavering Tone -- fire or rescue call for Mount Ayr Fire Department.

Ringgold county students receiving degrees at the spring commencement of the State University of Iowa were: Steven Paul WATSON of Diagonal, bachelor of arts in political science; Dennis Wayne SOBOTKA, Diagonal, MD degree; and Robert Orville WARD, Mount Ayr, BA in sociology (sic).

Five Ringgold county 4-Hers will be among the 43 young people form the Midcrest Extension area who will leave June 23 on a "Citizenship Shortcourse '7" trip to Washington, D.C. The 4-Hers included are: Darla TAYLOR, Diagonal; Eldon and Ellen McALEXANDER, Beaconsfield; Steve WALTERS, Kellerton; and Kevin TRIGGS, Mount Ayr.

Jan MORGAN, 18-year-old daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Leo MORGAN of Kellerton, has been selected as the Ringgold county beef queen.

Dr. W. L. CHANEY of Creston was a guest speaker for the Kellerton Lions Club's 25th anniversary of their charter. Dr. CHANEY was the charter president of the Kellerton Lions club. Eight charter members were presented Charter Monarch chevrons for 25 year membership: Harold AKERS, Dick BARNES, Chet GIBSON, Harold HARVEY, Dean JACKSON, Frank BIERLEIN, Wallace TEALE and Ora FUGATE, all of Kellerton.

BIRTHS REPORTED FROM RINGGOLD COUNTY HOSPITAL:

  • June 14, a son to Mr. and Mrs. David WOOLLUMS, Mount Ayr
  • June 16, a son to Mr.and Mrs. Kevin HENRY, Mount Ayr
