Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 22, 1998

by Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

State representative Cecil DOLECHECK of Kellerton presented Mildred ELLIOTT of Mount Ayr with a certificate of recognition from the Iowa Legislature for her many years of service to the state of Iowa. ELLIOTT continues to serve on the Iowa Correction Board, where she was appointed in April 1985. Her service to the state has spanned almost 30 years.

Marty and Jackie SCHNOOR of rural Mount Ayr will represent Ringgold County Farm Bureau at the 1998 Young Farmer Conference January 29-31 in West Des Moines.

A grant of $1,500 for the Family Resource Center project was awarded by the South Central Iowa Community Foundation (SCICF) this past week. The Family Resource Center is owned by Ringgold County Child Care, Inc., an independent non-profit corporation with a board of directors made up of Ringgold county residents. The grant will go to help with the building and furnishing of the building that will house several county child care and pre-school programs.

At the Grand Valley school board meeting, superintendent Phil BURMEISTER reported that the possibility of using the school building as a shelter for victims of domestic vilence has encountered some difficulities in raising funds. Paul BOYSEN is investigating the possiblity of the building being used as an educational facility for juveniles referred by the Fifth Judicial District, noting that the alternative school site could possibly be moved to house both facilities together. The board approved the termination of Camille JACKSON as elementary principal and the termination of eight teachers and seven support staff members for the coming year.
