Another in a series of storms which has bothered Ringgold county this spring and summer struck Thursday afternoon, June 14. This is the third storm which has done a good deal of property damage in the county this spring. Straight lines winds did damage to a number of properties located in the southeast part of the county this time. Winds were reported between 60 and 70 miles an hour in parts of the county and a tornado warning was in effect in eastern Ringgold county and Decatur county between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Several large trees were completely uprooted and others were damaged heavily at the Shady Rest RV Park in southeast Ringgold county. High winds, hail and hard rain were reported and creeks in the Kellerton area were running full after the storm.

A local student was elected as a city council member at the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary-sponsored Hawkeye Girls State Program. City council members were elected to serve four mythical cities last week during the event held at the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls. Mekenze BISHOP of Mount Ayr was elected as a ward councilman for the city of Ladeoff.

Mount Ayr Community high school FFA members participated in two contests recently. For the first time the chapter participate in the state agronomy skills contest at Iowa State University in Ames. The MAC team of Brad WILSON, Adam TRIGGS, Lyndon HAWKINS and Jacque BAKER placed eighth out of the 24 teams from across the state which participated. On the same day the chapter participated in the Iowa Ag Mechanics contest held at Iowa State University. The team of Chris LARSEN, Lincoln PARRISH and Brian ENGLAND received a silver medal. A total of 27 chapters had teams entered in the contest.

The third employee of Wood-Link, Ltd. in Mount Ayr to reach 10 years of service to the company was recognized recently. Barry SCHUSTER Mount Ayr began working May 13, 1991.
