There will be a shower held for Mr. and Mrs. Wesley JONES, whose two-story home in Redding burned to the ground October 15, causing them to lose everything. The couple was reported to be visitng in Des Moines when the blaze was noticed by a passerby about 3:11 a.m. Saturday. No cause was determined.

The motor of Bob BENNETT'S combine was destroyed by fire Monday (Oct. 17) about 5:30 p.m. as he was driving it down a country road north of his farm home, eight miles northeast of Mount Ayr.

Carol Lea OXLEY of Mount Ayr escaped serious injury when the 1976 Chevrolet Blazer went out of control on a rain-slick highway and plunged over a viaduct, turning over and landing on its wheels onthe railroad track below.

A total of 379 Mount Ayr Community elementary school children were fingerprinted during a special program to provide parents with information that could be used by law enforcement personnel should their child disappear. Mount Ayr city policeman Gail MAPES and Debbie MATHENY helped at one of the stations while McGruff, a safety dog character, kept track of the progress. Some 97 percent of the elementary children were fingerprinted during the day. The Mount Ayr Parent-Teacher Organization cooperated with area law enforcement personeel to do the project.

Amy JACKSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon JACKSON of Mount Ayr, was installed as worthy advisor of the Mount Ayr Rainbow Assembly on Sunday in the Masonic Temple in Mount Ayr.

U.S. Senator Charles GRASSLEY visited with some 35 people in the Old Fort Restaurant in Tingley Thursday as a part of a "listening post" visit to the county.

Mount Ayr Community Raider marching band, directed by Merrill PERRY, took third place in the Class 3-A marching band competition held in conjunction with Northwest Missouri State University's homecoming parade Saturday. The band placed behind the Maysville MO marching band and the South Harrison of Bethany, MO, marching band in the competition. Some 31 bands competed in the competition with the Raiders competing in the next to largest class. The parade was held in a steady rain.

Earl SICKELS, who is retiring after 22 years as Mount Ayr Community school bus mechanic and transportation director, will be honored by an open house on Sunday, Oct. 30, at the MACHS commons.

Among employees of Iowa Southern Utilities honored for service to the company at a dinner in their honor were 16 employees of the western district of the company in Creston recently. Neil K. TOLAND was honored for five years of service and Marvin C. WOOLLUMS was honored for 2 years of service.

Lisa BARKER has served as the 1983 Ringgold County Pork Queen after being crowned by 1982 queen Vonna JACKSON at the annual pork banquet held in February. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan BARKER of Benton and is a 1982 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.
