Future Farmers of America News
The Mount Ayr Chapter of Future Farmers of America was among the three top wining Iowa chapters at the national FFA convention in Kansas City, MO. R. E. HAUPTMANN is the adviser and Billie WIMER is the president of the Mount Ayr chapter.

The Mount Ayr Chapter of Future Farmers of America received a silver rating on its entry in the chapter program contest of the national FFA convention held last week in Kansas City, MO. The local chapter was one of three chapters in Iowa which represented the state in national competition. The silver emblem award is the second highest honor given for construction group achievements by all members of a FFA chapter. Only 44 chapters of the nation's 9,000 received silver ratings.

Melvin T. GRAY, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. GRAY of Mount Ayr, was awarded the coveted American Farmer Degree during convention ceremonies held Wednesday at the convention. This is the highest national honor to be awarded and only one boy in 1,000 is eligible to receive the honor.

Dale BICKEL, reporter for the Mount Ayr Chapter of Future Farmers of America and winner of the Iowa soil conservation public speaking contest, appeared Friday evening on WHO and gave his award winning speech. Dale also received from the State Soil Conservation Commission photographs which showed him receiving the state award.

Ringgold County's 4-H livestock juding team, composed of Bob ALLEN, Dale BICKEL, David BARKER and Randall HANSON, placed sixth in the national livestock judging contest held Friday in Kansas City, Mo in conjunction with the American Royal.

Dean JACKSON of Kellerton and E. M. WATSON of Diagonal will represent Ringgold county at a delegate session of the Iowa Association of School Boards to be held November 16 in Des Moines.

Lyle DULANY of Mount Ayr is in Miami, FL this week attending the national American Legion convention.
