Trevor WOLF was named valedictorian and Alex STEPHENS salutatorian when a class of 14 students was graduated from Diagonal Community high school in commencement ceremonies Friday at the school.

Amanda PENNINGTON qualified for the state track meet in the 800 meters when the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes took part in the district track meet in Audubon Saturday. PENNINGTON ran the 800 meters in 2:25.79 to place second in the event and get an automatic trip to state. She is set to run Saturday at Drake University in Des Moines.

Mount Ayr Community's Raiders advanced three events to the state track meet. Matt WEEDA advanced to state in the high jump, 400 meter dash and as a part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which also includes Luke WARD, Ben GRAHAM and Jared ARMSTRONG.

A Mount Ayr student was named a distinguised student writer in Career and Technology Education at Central Missouri State University during the Department of Career and Technology Education's spring 2004 achievement awards reception at the college in Warrensburg, MO. Presenting the award to Mark HYMBAUGH was Kelly Edmondson, assistant to the chair of the Department of Career and Technology Education. HYMBAUGH is a sophomore at CMSU and is majoring in electonics.
