The benefit for the Mount Ayr First Christian Church conducted Sunday afternoon and evening March 16, by the Mount Ayr American Legion and Auxiliary at the hall reaped $1,985.09. The Christian church here had been badly damaged by fire Feb. 12 and this was the community's way of encouraging the restoration or rebuilding of the church. The event grossed $2,202.69.

Kevin KLOMMHAUS of Ellston had the highest Ringgold county placing in the carcass contest of the recent Creston Spring Market Swine Show. KLOMMHAUS placed second to Fontanelle's Jill WEINHEIMER, according to evaluation data received at the Ringgold extension office this week. KLOMMHAUS had a second in Class 2 in the live show but was not in the top 10.

Two Ringgold county residents have announced their candidacy for county offices.

Elbert STRANGE, who will complete 20 years as Ringgold county sheriff this fall, will seek the Democratic nomination for sheriff and re-election for another four-year term.

Jand SCHNOOR of rural Mount Ayr, will seek the Democratic nomination for member of the board of supervisors for the term starting Jan. 1, 1981.

A pickup, taken sometime during the early morning of Sunday, March 16, from the George HAIDSIAK farm home was found later north of Blockton by the Ringgold and Taylor county sheriffs' staffs. HAIDSIAK lives just north of the north junction of Highways 2 and 25 and has a Clearfield address. The 1974 Chevrolet pickup was spotted by HAIDSIAK'S father, Wayne HAIDSIAK of Clearfield, later that morning in the driveway of a farm owned by Bob LOUTZENHISER of Blockton. The farm house is unoccupied. Authorities said there was about $350 in damage to the pickup and a CB radio was missing from it when it was discovered.

Also reported to the Ringgold sheriff's office were two break-ins at the Digaonal Tavern -- one Friday night, March 14, and the other Sunday, March 16. The tavern is owned by Mel BROWN and is located on Diagonal's main street. Missing were beer, pop and cigarettes and $75 in change was taken from the cash register. Entrance was gained by forcing the door of an apartment in the rear of the tavern.

Eight cartons of cigarettes were taken in an early morning break-in March 7 at My Place owned by Pete and Ruth CAVENDER on North Taylor Street, Mount Ayr. Entrance was gained by breaking out a plywood window at the rear of the tavern. The break-in was invesigated by the Ringgold county sheriff's office.

The children and grandchildren of Francis and Mildred SMITH invite you to celebrate with them their 40th wedding anniversary.
