Fire of unknown origin totally destroyed the two-story I.O.O.F. building in Tingley early Sunday morning. The fire was discovered about 12:45 a.m. but had gained such headway that it was impossible to save the building. The building was erected soon after the town of Tingley was established by Charles SWAIN, hardware merchant. I. F. HALL also operated a hardware store in the building until his retirement and later it was occupied by a drug store. The second story was devoted to lodge and club meetings. A tractor, owned by the town, and two cars stored in the building were removed undamaged. Insurance on the building, owned for the past 30 years by the I.O.O.F. Lodge, had expired February 15 of this year.

Formal announcement of the candidacy of Lester SICKELS of Liberty township for the office of state representative from Ringgold county, subject to the will of Republican voters at the primary election, appears elsewhere in this issue of the Record-News. Mr. SICKELS is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. SICKELS of Kellerton. He has resided in Ringgold county since 1919 and has been engaged in farming except for two years when he was employed as a mechanic.

The champion, shown in the senior yearling class, was also the top selling female of the sale. Two heifers, exhibited by Lloyd ANGUS of Poe townsip placed first in their class.

Loren E. GROUT, ninth grade general science instructor in the Mason City schools and a former resident of Ringgold county, is the winner of the second annual Iowa science teacher award. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Z. I. GROUT of Tingley, Mr. GROUT taught three years in Tingley schools and for three years at Perry before going to Mason City. Mr. GROUT is a brother of Ray I. GROUT of Tingley.

Elmer REESE of Diagonal was re-elected president of the Io Ne Mo Polled Hereford Association at the annual meeting held in Clarinda during the annual show and sale Friday. Leslie FOX of Tingley, who has been the active secretary for three years, was given a vote of confidence and was re-elected.
