Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 20, 2002

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Less than a week before the start of her trial, Pamela S. FOLEY, 41, of Ridgeway, MO, entered a guilty plea to a charge of murdering her estranged husband, a Mount Ayr man, back in November 2000. FOLEY entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in the death of her husband, Larry WHITE, 39, of Mount Ayr. The couple was last seen together at a bar in Mount Ayr in early November 2000. WHITE'S body was recovered from a well on a farm west of Eagleville on December 9, 2000. An autopsy found WHITE had died from being shot in the head with a .22 caliber weapon. Another individual, Ronald Frederick GIBSON, 22, of Bethany, MO, currently is awaiting trial on a related charge of abandonment of a corpse. According to authorities, GIBSON allegedly assisted in disposing of WHITE'S body.

Paul RAMSEY, a native of Ringgold county who now resides in Newport Beach, CA, is working to turn dreams into reality in Ringgold county. In working with business and civic leaders, RAMSEY hopes to renovate the square in Mount Ayr. Included will be building repairs on the square and the hopes for a reenactment of "Old Time Saturday Nights."

Sites for Learning students visited the Camp Dodge Leadership Recreation Course in Johnston Friday, June 7. A total of 10 local students participated in four of the eight leadership stations, including three which involved shallow water obstacles.

A batting cage has been built in honor of Lefty GEIST at Judge Lewis Park, just west of the tennis courts. The cage recently opened to the public and will be used by little league teams and high school teams. A pitching machine is also available for use.

Work has been done to remodel the outside of the Tent Chapel Church of Christ near Blockton recently. Work was done on the steeple of the church building. New vinyl siding was installed and other repair work was done on the building.

A former Ringgold county resident will return to Mount Ayr Sunday, June 30, to share information about mission ministries. David and Judith KNAPP of Greeley, CO, Rocky Mountain representatives for New Tribes Mission of Sanford, FL, will be visiting First Christian Church of Mount Ayr that day.
