RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, May 4, 2000

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Nature-goers have a new place to visit in Ringgold county to enjoy what they like best - viewing nature. With the help of the Ringgold County Chapter of Pheasants Forever in acquiring land for the Kellerton Grasslands Bird Conservation Area and Woodlink, Ltd. building a new handicapped accesible viewing platform, the public has a place to watch prairie chicken rituals and other wildlife.

Citizens Bank of Mount Ayr will soon own the Commercial Federal Bank office located in Kellerton. Kim GREENLAND, president of the Mount Ayr office, will oversee operations of the Kellerton branch. Citizens Bank has locations in Leon, Grand River, Osceola, Hamburg and Riverton, as well as Mount Ayr.

A Kellerton eight-year-old had a thrill when he caught a catfish which was more than two feet long in a country farm pond recently. Brian STILL, son of Brad and Cherrye STILL of Kellerton, used a hot dog as bait to catch this big fish.

Four new meet records were set - two of them by Raider entries - when the Mount Ayr Community Raider Relays were held in Mount Ayr Tuesday night. The Raiders won the Class A division of the meet while Essex won the Class B division. On a beautiful night for track, Brad ELLIOTT ran the 800-meter run in 1:58.70 and the 4X200 meter relay team of Scott RUMPLE, Brett SHIELDS, Brad HARTMAN and Jeremy BURMEISTER ran the relay in 1:34.30 to set new Raider Relay records. ELLIOTT'S time was a new school record, bettering his time of 1:50.01 set last year.

Two Mount Ayr Community high school entries placed at the state Technology Students Association (TSA) meeting in Des Moines recently. The structural engineering entry of Travis HINZ and Tanner RINEHART placed 3rd in the state. For the contest, bridges are built and their strength tested. The chapter team placed 2nd in the parliamentary procedure contest as well. Members of the team included Amber TAYLOR, Ashley REYNOLDS, Dara CREVELING, Abby JEANES and Amanda McLEAD.
