RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 19, 1984

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Parades, bed races, a mule jumping contest, donkey softball game and an antique tractor pull were featured in a full weekend of festivities during Redding Frontier Days which began July 14. Among top winners in the children's parade Saturday morning were "sheriff" Timothy KAIL, "farmer" Joshua KAIL and "Little Bo Beep" Stephanie BAINUM. Good crowds participated in both days of the Redding ceremony.

Ralph BRAMMER of Redding was elected to a two-month term on the Mount Ayr Community school board in a special meeting Monday night. BRAMMER was chosen by the board to fill the unexpired term of Mary Sue WEBB, who resigned last week. The September election will name the replacement to the at-large seat until 1986. BRAMMER is a former member of the Mount Ayr Community school board.

Among the top presenters at the educational presentations competition held recently were Jamie JONES who matched nutritious snacks with non-nutritious snacks and Lywanda CASE, who told how to make "picture perfect pies." Junior winners received top honors included Elsa McALEXANDER who talked about "look, read and learn" and Scott JOHNSTON who talked about "cooking up a Haiku." Barbara POTTORFF advanced to the senior division.

Five acres of wheat were lost at the Cleo LYNCH farm just east of the north intersection of Highways 2 and 25 when fire was discovered about 3 p.m. Friday, July 13. That was "unlucky" but the "lucky" part was that a neighbor discovered the smoke and called the Mount Ayr firemen to the scene so the blaze was contained. LYNCH was in Mount Ayr at the time of the fire. The wheat caught fire when ignited by sparks from a combine. There was no reported damage to the combine.

Marcia FORD, R.N., has been hired and assumed her role as administrative nurse of the Ringgold County Public Health Nursing Agency effective July 1. She has been hired following the resignation of Mary Sue WEBB, R.N., who will be moving out of state.
