RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 18, 1997

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Some of the new decorative lamp posts are in place around the Mount Ayr square to give people an idea what the new lighting will look like when it is all installed. The four corners of the square will have three-bulb fixtures while single-bulb fixtures will be placed down the side of the square.

Jason BURKHISER joined southwest Iowa's Farm Business Association staff on Sept. 1 and will serve members in Fremont, Page, Ringgold and Taylor counties.

Robert BOOTH, Jr. was hired to fill the open position on the Mount Ayr police force at a salary level of $19,302 a year, pending successful completion of pre-employment testing. BOOTH was a deputy with the Ringgold County Sheriff's Office before resigning to run unsuccessfully for Taylor County Sheriff.

Mount Ayr city council approved a plat for subdividing the new area of the industrial park into six different lots. Three of the six lots have been sold to individuals or groups. Jack COOK has purchased part of the area as a buffer for his property. Rideta Electrical Cooperative is purchasing property on which to build a spec industrial building to help attract new industry. WoodLink, Inc. is also purchasing some of the property.

A strange shaped cucumber was found by Lucy COMER of Mount Ayr when she harvested cucumbers from her garden here recently. The cucumber was shaped like a duck or penguin with a "neck" leading down to a "beak."
