Total receipts from the sale of Lions Club candy Saturday in Kellerton amounted to $96. The Grand Valley Letter Club junior high athletic organization was in charge of the sale conducted in the interest of the Sight Foundation. The "supersalesman" of the day was Dick ROSS, who made an aggressive campaign and turned in receipts of $52.

Donald BROWN, 13, of Blockton suffered serious injuries Saturday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. when he fell from a tractor and was run over by a rear wheel at the entrance of a driveway to the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Allie BROWN, four miles north of Blockton on Highway 25. The youth was taken by ambulance to the Ringgold County Hospital, where medical examination and x-rays revealed that he suffered a fractured skull, a broken jaw, chest injuries and impaired vision in the left eye. He was transferred yesterday to the Blank Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. Donald was riding on the tractor with his brother, Richard, 15, who was driving, when the accident happened as the tractor turned into the driveway. An eighth grade pupil in the Conway schools, Donald is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex BROWN of Blockton. He has three brothers besides Richard and two sisters.

A silver rating and silver emblem, the second highest award to any chapter of Future Farmers of America, was received by the local chapter during the national F.F.A. convention held last week in Kansas City, MO. Only 23 chapters in the nation were presented this award.

Fire totally destroyed the six-room frame home of Mrs. Cora HALL of Benton about 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Apparently caused by defective wiring, the fire had smouldered in the attic and burned through its floor. After the south half of the roof had fallen through to the first floor, the entire house burst into flames. Mrs. HALL, a widow, had been awakened about 4 a.m. by the odor of smoke but could detect nothing wrong at the time. Later smoke began pouring in the front door. Members of the Mount Ayr volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for assistance but were unable to save the building because of the lack of water, the only available source being a 30-foot well.
