Charter night for the newly organized Lions Club at Kellerton will be held this evening at the American Legion Hall in Kellerton. Charter members of the club are: Harold AKERS, Albert ALLEN, C. BRIMMER, Raymond BROOKS, Truman BAKER, Dick BARNES, Glenn BEAR, Frank BIERLEIN, William CHANEY, Harold DAVENPORT, W. FARMER, Harry FUGATE, Ora FUGATE, W. GERINGER, Chester GIBSON, Elmer GOLDNER, Clarence HARRIS, G. HARVEY, M. JACKSON, Dean JACKSON, Millard JACKSON, Jamie MEADOWS, H. Weldon MEADOWS, Homer MICHAEL, James MOON, A. MOSBARGER, Martin O'CONNELL, H. POLLARD, Loren SCOTT, Forest SMITH, Lyle SPENCER, Wallace TEALE, Phil TERRY, Fred TRIMBLE and J. WHITE.

The Reverend U. E. BURROUGHS, who is retiring from the active ministry after 50 years of service, will be honored Sunday by members of the First Bapist Church in Mount Ayr. He has served as pastor of the Mount Ayr church for six years and three months.

Included in the appointments of Methodist ministers at the annual Iowa-Des Moines Methodist conference held at Grace church in Des Moines, was that of the Reverend C. W. WOOLLARD to the church in Mount Ayr. He comes to Mount Ayr from College Springs, Page county.

The Christian church in Mount Ayr was the setting Sunday afternoon, June 14 at 2:30 o'clock for the marriage of Miss Barbara Joan DICKERSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burl DICKERSON of Mount Ayr, and Billy Howard BRYANT, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard BRYANT of Beaconsfield.

Nineteen girls and two leaders from Ringgold county went yesterday to Ames to attend the state 4-H girls' convention. The delegates this year are: Loretta MATHANY, Beacon Bomberettes; Carolyn GALBRAITH, Busy workers; Lila REYNOLDS, Caledonia Clover Girls; Mildred DRAKE, Gay Farmerettes; Marilyn OLNEY, Happy-Go-Lucky; Janice CLOUSE, Jefferson Home Hustlers; Arlene BUTT, Jolly Jinglers; Erma POLLOCK, Liberty Belles; Rita Ann WARIN, Maloy Colleens, Colleen ALRSEN, Mount Ayr Coeds; Betty ELLIOTT, Riley Blue Bells; Patty DAUGHTON, Sunshine Workers; Mildred JONES, Union Loyal Lassies; and Colleen RILEY, Washington Workers. Accompanying the girls were Mrs. Marvin SOBOTKA and Virginia REDHAGE.

BIRTHS REPORTED FROM RINGGOLD COUNTY HOSPITAL:

  • June 15, a son to Mr. and Mrs. George FARMER, Mount Ayr
  • June 16, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette HULL, Beaconsfield
  • June 17, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Charles PICKERING, Grant City MO
