Shaun HAYSE and John McGILLIGAN are co-directing "The Music Man" productin which is being presented by the Moonlighters Theatre Group from July 18-20. The play is being presented by a cast of 57, plus a supporting crew of many more people, as a sesquicentennial salute to Iowans and Iowa composer, Meredith Wilson.

Many champions were named in the judging for the Ringgold County Fair this week. A few of the market class winners were Cari CREVELING who showed a champion market lamb, Cole WILLIS who showed the grand champion market steer, and Karen ELMER who showed the grand champion market hog in the swine show.

Royatly for the Ringgold County Fair included first runner-up, Linay COMER, 1996 fair queen, Jess McGAHUEY and second runner-up, Amy WALKUP. Kelsey GLENDENNING of Mount Ayr was crowned Ringgold county fair princess.

A 1992 Ford pickup, driven by Erin Keith MAIN, 18, of Mount Ayr, had $7,500 in damages; tack was destroyed in an amount of $350 an the horses, belinging to Frank CARSON of Diagonal, that were killed were valued at $50 each. But, the miracle seemed to be that the riders or the two in the pickup, in the 8:45 p.m., July 12 collision three miles southwest of Diagonal on an unmarked county dirt road, did not coume out with lifet-threatening injuries.

Nick CARSON, 15, and Tim SCHLENKER, 26, both of Diagonal, were reported to be riding horses and were west-bound on a dirt raod. The horses were struck at the crest of a hill by the MAIN pickup, CARSON and SCHLENKER were thrown in to opposite ditches and the pickup went into the south ditch at the bottom of the hill. SCHLENKER reportedly sustained a broken shoulder and broken toe and CARSON was treated for a foot injury. Neither MAIN, nor his passenger, Katrina LARSEN of Clearfield, appeared to be injured.

Drexell WALL, 38, of Blockton is recuperating from an injury suffered July 6 when his left hand got caught in machinery as he was baling hay for Rick RIDGE at a Worth County, Missouri farm. WALL is right-handed.
