Thursday, November 17, 1988

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Bobbi HUNT of Diagonal was crowned Ringgold county beef queen. Princess was Krista SHAHA. Parents of the two are Lois HUNT of Diagonal and the late Frank HUNT and Kyle and Pam SHAHA of rural Mount Ayr. Racinda JACKSON of rural Kellerton, now a student at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO, who serves as district beef queen, placed the crown on HUNT'S head. Bobbi HUNT, a senior at Diagonal Community schools, as a 4-Her, has shown 16 steers and five breeding animals at county and state levels.

Mount Ayr Community high school's FFA chapter had its 26th member receive an American Farmer degree last week. The award is the highest degree of membership awarded by the national FFA organization and went this year to Matt DAUGHTON of Kellerton. DAUGHTON, a 1985 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school, is part of a beef, swine and crop farm operation with his father. He is the son of Bill and Nancy DAUGHTON of rural Kellerton.

A Mount Ayr Community high school coach was honored at the Iowa Girls Basketball Banquet of the Iowa Athletic Coaches Association held Saturday in Ames. Coach Doug McKERN was among coaches receiving awards for coaching records with over 200 wins in girls basketball. Coming into this year, McKERN has a career record of 214 wins and 89 losses.
