Lab reports that will help in the determination of the cause of fire that destroyed Larry's Country Western in Mount Ayr are expected back later this week, according to Rod STARK, fire chief of the Mount Ayr Fire Department. Arson is suspected in the blaze that destroyed the restaurant, lounge and dance hall facility that had opened in the remodeled skating rink in Mount Ayr in January.

A contract for services from Harold Hughes Center, Inc., was signed by the Ringgold County Hospital board of directors Monday night, paving the way for an alcohol/substance abuse treatment center at the hospital as soon as remodeling can be done.

Doug VIRDEN was elected mayor of Kellerton, Ronnie CREVELING was named mayor of Ellston, and Marvin BOYER was named mayor of Clearfield in the city elections held November 8. Almost the entire slate of officers in Kellerton and Ellston were elected by write-in votes.

Governor Terry BRANSTAD and representative of the Iowa Development Commission were on hand at the Miracle Recreation Company plant in Mount Ayr Wednesday, Nov. 10, for a tour of the plant an a visit with company officials. The governor visited with the plant manager, Loren (Zeb) INNIS while touring.

Jan EBERLY, national president of the Future Farmers of America, congratulated Kevin TRIGGS of Mount Ayr on his achievement of the American Farmer Degree.

The Mount Ayr public library was the recipient of a print of the painting "New Horizons" presented by Larry OPFER, Mount Ayr manager of the South Central Iowa Production Credit Association, this week. Accepting the print was librarian Marie McGILVERY.
