Amy HYNEK will represent the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes in the girls' state track meet in Des Moines Saturday. HYNEK will be taking part in the Class 2A discus throw after qualifying for state with a 114-foot throw to win the district track meet in Mount Ayr last week. HYNEK will go into the meet with the 14th best qualifying throw. This is HYNEK'S second trip to the state meet in the discus event after taking part in last year's state meet.

Bricklayers were putting up the brick walls for the addition to the Mount Ayr Community elementary school as progress on the addition moved forward this week. The three-room addition will provide more classrooms for the elementary school, including a computer lab.

Melissa WINKLER, a Mount Ayr Community high school student, came home from the National Business Professionals of America contest in Anaheim, CA last week with second place in the business knowledge skills contest and fifth place in the management concepts contest at the national meeting.

The top award of the annual fine arts banquet at the Mount Ayr Community high school for outstanding talent, dedication and achievement in multiple fine arts areas went to Ashley HENSEL.

One golfer from Mount Ayr Community high school survived the district golf tournaments. T.J. REDDING easily took medalist honors in the Class 2A sectional at Oakland to advance to the district meet at Panorama. The Raider golf squad placed third as a team, out of contention to advance as a squad.

Due to an outstanding performance in the USA Junior Nationals all-state high school basketball competition, Matt LYNCH of Mount Ayr, who is currently a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school Ayr, who is currently a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school,has been invited to participate in the USA Junior Nationals Championship sports festival in Atlanta, GA.
