RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 17, 1955

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mr. and Mrs. O. C. HULL quietly celebrated the 64th anniversary of their marriage on March 18 in their home at Kellerton. Sharing the day with them was their daughter, Mrs. Forrest MAIN of Delphos. Their son, Harry V. HULL of Humboldt was unable to be present but remembered them with flowers and cards on the occasion.

After deliberating only five minutes, a jury in kangaroo Court returned a verdit of "guilty" Tuesday night against C. O. RHOADES, who was charged with "willful disregard for the honor, respect and loyalty to the Ringgold County Centennial and failure to cooperate by wearing whiskers or having a shaver's permit in his possession." The indictment was returned by the grand jury composed of E. H. GUNTER, Jack BRABY and J. A. TYSON. The plaintiff in the case was the Mount Ayr Chapter of the Brothers of the Bush.

Judge (Dr. Chas.) LAWHEAD pronounced sentence, committing RHOADES to one hour in the court yard enclosure, said defendant being allowed to roam at large until said enclosure is constructed. RHOADES denied his guilt and told reporters that rules of the court were flagrantly violated and that the case was a gross miscarriage of justice. he said he would appeal the case. Court officers are Charles LAWHEAD and Charles LESAN, judges; Clem DHEIL, bailiff; W. B. CUNNING, clerk; Guy TODD, reporter; H. P. TODD, sheriff. Trial jurors will be selected for each session.

Dan CARYL assumed his duties Monday as manager of the United Food Market in Mount Ayr. he was formerly identified with the Creston, Marengo and Osceola stores before coming to Mount Ayr.

Myron HORN assumed his duties Tuesday as manager of the Mount Ayr Hotel, which was purchased last week by Mrs. Mabel RICE and Gary McCULLOUGH. Mr. HORN formerly owned and operated the Horn Motor Company and recently served as feed salesman for Nelson's Hog Yard.
